The creative bug...

So I've been in a creative mood lately.  And if you know me, you know this only comes around about ohhhh every 3 years.  I have a secret desire to be artistic (guess it's not a secret anymore) but I'm just not.  I'm more of a "do" person.  You come up with the idea and I'll make sure it gets done. So when the creative bug hits, I strike.  So, since this is almost as popular as leap year, I thought I would post some pics of the two things I did.

This first picture is what I based my projects on.  Jarrod and I did this the last time I was creative (about 3 and half years ago.) We needed some art to go over our couch and couldn't find anything we liked that wasn't way too expensive so we decided to just make it.

The material wasn't exactly cheap so I couldn't toss the extra we had left over.  Instead I held on to it, hoping that someday I could use it.  That day came this week.

Project One:

We bought a rocker and glider set when I was pregnant with Jesalyn.  I almost didn't buy it because it was an ugly blue the didn't match anything in our apartment, but I'm so glad we went ahead and got it.  I rock Jesalyn to sleep in it every single night, whether it fits the decor or not.  I've been wanting to put new material on the whole thing since we got it, but I'm not the best seamstress and I new there was no way I can do that so instead I did this:

The glider was easy. I just unscrewed the padding and stapled the new material on it.  The rocker, I just hand sewn the material into it.  I think it turned out pretty good.  It's at least a step up from what it looked like before.

Project Two:
At this point, I was on a roll.  The way our apartment is set up has the washer/dryer in the kitchen, but it has a sliding door that's used so that you can't see them.  Our dryer is well, a pain in the rear, and wouldn't fit to the attachments while also going back far enough for the door to slide shut.  So, Jarrod and I bought some red curtains to hang instead.  It looked okay, but it just needed an extra touch.  So, I dug out that leftover material:
This is a picture halfway done. One side without my touch, one with:

And the finished project:

Yes, I know the rug is a different color of red and sort of clashes.  Guess that's a project for another day.

Nashville

So, I got to thinking about writing this blog entry; the one about our fun adventure moving to Nashville and I just know there is no better way to tell this story than to do it in pictures.  Enjoy!

This was the first night and also the first hotel we stayed in.We had to stop due to the fact that we were about to run into a tornado.  I know this tv says Arizona, but I loved the "The Great Tornado Hunt" logo. Perfect.

This was the tv screen the next day.  We stopped in Kentucky to get gas and I just happened to overhear someone say that there were a bunch of interstates closed going in Nashville.  Ugh! Time to get the good ol' credit card out again.  One more night in a hotel.
This was right after we got out of the car to go into the hotel. All three of us were wet and cold and tired

Jesalyn, loved the trip!  She didn't have a chance to get bored once =)

We ended up turning around the next day and staying at my mom's in Illinois for a few days before we were able to make it to Nashville.  It turned out to be a pretty horrific ordeal and while I'm making light of our trip, a lot of people were affected by the flood and several people lost their lives.  We are just so lucky to have not been right there in the middle of it.

I will say, I did get to see this for so many hours and each time I looked, I just had to smile:

We are here.

By here I mean Nashville.  Yes, we made it.  It was quite a trip but we made it.  Don't worry, I took lots of pictures of our....adventure.  And an adventure it was.  I'm still trying to locate my cord that connects my camera to my computer.  So, stay tuned for a latter post with pictures and the story of trip here.
